Registering an imported vehicle
Have a vehicle with a European certificate of conformity? You go straight to registration for 800 CZK. Without it you first need the technical fitness approved, and for a vehicle from outside the EU that means a full technical protocol from a testing station.

What this depends on
You'll need to know this about your plan
- Do you have a European certificate of conformity (COC) for the vehicle, or was its type approved by an authority of another member state with EU-wide validity? This also covers a vehicle whose type was approved directly by the Ministry of Transport, or approved by another member state and recognised by the Ministry.
- Where does the vehicle come from? This determines how demanding it is to prove technical fitness.Only asked in some cases
- Is the vehicle new, never used before? For a new vehicle, the registration inspection comparing the actual condition against the documents isn't required.
Possible outcomes
How this can turn out
- Straight to registration
With a valid COC or an EU type approval, you don't file a request for technical fitness approval. You go straight to the municipal authority of a to request the vehicle's entry into the register.
Municipal office800 CZK for entering a motor vehicle with at least four wheels into the register- Yes, I have a document about the approved type
- Yes, it's never been driven
- Technical fitness approval first
Without a COC you first have to apply for approval of the technical fitness of the imported vehicle. For a vehicle from another member state, a list of requirements from that state's authority is enough instead of a full technical protocol.
Municipal office3,000 CZK for approval of technical fitness + 800 CZK for the subsequent entry into the register- No, or I don't know if I have such a document
- From another EU member state
- Yes, it's never been driven
- Full technical protocol
For a vehicle from a third country without a COC, you have to prove technical fitness approval with a full technical protocol from a testing station, at the applicant's expense.
Municipal office3,000 CZK for approval of technical fitness + 800 CZK for the subsequent entry into the register, plus the cost of the technical protocol at the testing station- No, or I don't know if I have such a document
- From a third country outside the EU
- Yes, it's never been driven
